@Saskiaaa_____ I read the article - it never actually states that Burnham stated he would do that, it just speculated that he would u-turn on his tepid anti immigration rhetoric.
@MorgothsReview In the mind of the government, it’s being done as a last desperate attempt to prevent the system being replaced. It hopes an opposing anti-liberal party won’t come into being, if it outlaws the medium (social media) driving the success of the Greens and Reform
@JTAlexander It’s the fatigue and paralysis of grief. And when the grief subsides it just gives way to numbness.
I remember hearing a quote about a mother whose son died. She didn’t speak for a while and then finally said “my son is dead and I don’t know what to do now”.
@Slatzism It comes from being brought up as kids with this arrogance that “we’re smarter than Americans” only to enter adulthood and find we’re the laughing stock of the developed world. We have to reach for the worst thing to keep the illusion alive.
@Slatzism@GirlyScouts I disagree somewhat. The base-level “women are whores” commentary definitely come from men who can’t get laid, but I’d hesitate to call it intrasexual competition because these men don’t have hope of getting women even without competition. It’s more just about expressing anger.
@Slatzism@frogNscorpion@PollySpin It’s inherently tied to the boomer desire to not be seen as racist, by pointing to a ‘good’ brown religious community before critiquing Islam - I.e. “it’s not that I don’t want brown people in my country, it’s just that the Muslims are …”
It’s very much a boomer stance though.
@Slatzism Tbh, as someone who is English, I wouldn’t even be bothered if you were speaking out of malice. Of all the western countries, we’ve suffered the most from immigration (in my opinion) and our reaction has been so pathetic. Our apathy, toward our own suffering, is our fault.
