My opinion is that there were too many cards in the opener and they set out a directive against it. After Tantashev’s performance, they will now u-turn and punish everything. PR nightmare.

I don’t think he even got the French cards wrong, just laughable because no Paraguayan. The build up is inevitable when you allow leniency consistently, players take advantage.

Fifa will now u-turn and direct refs to punish everything after Tantashev’s showing

@SayatooSE @rvgooner @PoorEPLreferees The statement was that it’s Fifa’s directive to let things go and that has been true throughout the cycle, the bar for a card has been far higher and the averages have sunk. Last night was pure incompetency with the bias towards Paraguay but it’s a build up of Fifa’s approach.

@Millar_Colin The byproduct of Fifa’s hellbent approach to leniency this cycle. Fans in fact do not want to see thuggery rewarded with no cards. Clearly the officials have been advised to do so but they appear incompetent. Say what you will about Oliver’s 8 cards, he’d have clamped that down.

A team will quite obviously make signings if they drastically overpay, it’s not rocket science. Arsenal are a bit more intelligent than that desperation, which is why they weren’t 17th.
