ILLEGAL ZIMBABWEAN NATIONAL APPEARS IN COURT

A 35-year-old illegal Zimbabwean national appeared at the Pretoria North Magistrates’ Court. He is facing a charge of murder, five counts of attempted murder, two counts of arson and being illegal in the country.

It is alleged that on 02 June 2024, the man together with his accomplice who has not been apprehended went to a tavern in Akasia and the homes of Moshate forum members and their relatives and started shooting at them.

After the two set the tavern and the house of a complainant alight.

A woman who was at the tavern was shot and died on the scene. Five other people were injured and are still in hospital.

After investigations by the South African Police Service (SAPS) the man was arrested on 10 June 2024 and is remanded in custody.

The matter was postponed to 19 June 2024 in court for bail investigations and a legal representative.
