1/ If a nation wants to rise to first-world status, it must never downplay 3 professions: Education, Security & Health.
Let’s talk about education. 🧵
5/ Next time you pick a school for your child, don’t just admire the facilities.
👉 Ask how much teachers are paid compared to the school fees.
That alone will tell you the quality of education you’re buying.
4/ The result?
Our classrooms risk becoming dumping grounds for unemployed graduates.
When teachers are not respected, motivated, or properly trained, the future of education suffers.
3/ In many African countries 🇳🇬:
Teaching is often a “stopgap job” for unemployed graduates
Few enter the classroom by calling or training
Private schools prefer them because they are cheaper
Trained teachers are rare & undervalued
2/ In Finland 🇫🇮:
All teachers must have a Master’s degree
Only 10% of applicants are admitted into teacher training
Teachers are respected, well-paid & trusted
Teaching = as prestigious as law or medicine.
What do you think?
Should more countries adopt a Finland-like approach that positions parents as the first teachers? And do you see homeschooling as a stronger option for the future
Every parent is a teacher, whether they realize it or not.
I’ve always wondered about this…
How is it that even parents who never went to school are still able to teach their children to speak their indigenous language so fluently? #parenting#ECEC
Reflecting on this has made me more of a proponent of homeschooling lately. If parents can teach language and values at home, imagine what else is possible when we’re more deliberate about those first years of learning.
In Finland, those early years (0–6) are seen as the foundation, and parents are empowered to be intentionally involved before formal schooling begins. The result? Children enter school curious, confident, and ready to thrive.
For me, that’s proof that parents are naturally their children’s first teachers. Whether educated or not, they shape a child’s earliest learning.
This is one of the reasons I admire Finland’s education system. ?
@brainjotter__ I'll start a car wash business with it and the #300,000 remains my capital for the business because it will always come back. #InvestorsAtRiskNG
@Coolverydarkma If an @inDrive passenger decides to be malignant against a driver for no just reason, they can get away with it because of @inDrive policy that's anti-drivers especially for Nigerians. I got blocked on the app without a fair hearing. I'm left to start wondering what I did wrong.
