Bad PR
This article on the RTÉ website is very good.
It covers some well known examples where firms have gotten bad publicity due to the actions of the CEOs.

The original McDonald's video clip is below. Lots of other versions of it can be found on Instagram.

The addictive nature of Tik Tok is in the news today.
Tik Tok operates an "advertising supported business model"....see the LHS of the table of learning under "Business Planning"
An edited version of this RTÉ Brainstorm item with questions based on the Unifying Strand is on page 186 of Business Alive.

The class activity in the image is on page 230 and might lead to students reflecting on the amount of time they spend on social media.

Self-Service Terminals and Behavioural Science.
The first few paragraphs of this item might be useful for the project for some students who might be be researching self- service terminals replacing employees.
https://t.co/dK1KXHT9OD
Customers spend more at a terminal than at a till, according to this BBC item. However, the relevant statistic comes from a firm that sells the technology so the source needs to be checked for accuracy credibility and reliability (see the Unifying Strand for the relevant LO)
Here is a really good video that analyses the way items are presented at McDonald's self service terminals...it is eye opening!! (Note that there are adverts built into this video for watches!)

Here is the cigarette advert that is referred to in the BBC item.

The cigarette advertisement can be used in Economics in relation to market failure and the need for regulation.

The Mercosor trading bloc is in the news today.
The relevant LO is in the screenshot along with a brief description and a YouTube video clip suggestion.
Are we about to see an expansion of dynmaic pricing into the supermarket sector?🤔🛒
Check out the RTE article below to find out more👇🏽
📝Dynamic Pricing=prices rise when demand is high and fall when demand is low.📈📉

Pensions are in the news today.
Pensions get a small mention in the LC Business Specification - specifically in relation to risk (see the LHS of the screenshot below from the table of learning).
The new Pension Auto-Enrolment Scheme (My Future Fund) is also relevant as an example of a variable cost for some employers. It also serves as a potential disincentive to hire workers (relevant to the LO relating to economic indicators).
It can also be linked with the LO relating to the "factors to consider when saving, investing and borrowing".
Employers have engaged in lobbying in relation to it so it can also be linked to the LO about lobbying also.
Send a reply if you spot other links!
The pensions calculator referred to in the "Partner Up!" activity in the image might be a useful tool to engage students in issues relating to pensions - useful for TY classes and also for any of my followers who are planning their own retirements!!
Here is the link.

There will be 21 countries in the Eurozone on Thursday next once Bulgaria joins.
There will still be 27 EU member states.
Students of both Business and Economics regularly mix up the terms EU and Eurozone.

INSURANCE is referred to in the table of learning in the new LC Business Specification.
On the LHS of the TABLE OF LEARNING (see image), students learn about a range of risk management strategies.
The LHS gives us the FOUR risk management strategies students learn about, one of which is "CHOOSING SUITABLE INSURANCE PRODUCTS".
Then on the RHS, the action verb is "analyse". Part of the explanation of "analyse" is to "study or examine something in detail..."
"Business Alive" deals with this by providing details of a selection of insurance products, some of which are in the images below.
It's really important that we look at the LHS and RHS of the table and also the ACTION VERB on the right in order to know exactly the level of detail students require.
I urge all #lceconomics teachers to make an individual submission to the NCCA, the deadline is 17 November. I'm only going to be teaching for another 5 years or so but many of you will have to endure whatever the NCCA comes up with for many, many years to come - the only way we can have any sway in the outcome is to take the opportunity to give our point of view as teachers. Will they pay any attention to our submissions, I don't know but if we don't make our voices heard we have no hope of being listened to. I've included a link the latest version of my submission below, it might provide food for thought, you won't agree with everything I'm sure but it might help you put something together before the 17 November. Please don't let this opportunity slip by without having your say. #lceconomics https://t.co/cDQXsf2E3V

Dozens of fantastic podcasts can be found at the link below and played directly from the website of "Guaranteed Irish". They generally last 30 minutes. The history of the business is usually described along with issues relating to financing, marketing and sustainability.
Ideal for JC, TY and LC Business. Each student could pick one that appeals to them and listen to it.
Some activities related to the podcast about Glenisk can be found in the first screenshot below.

A general activity that can be used with any of those podcasts is in the 2nd screenshot. https://t.co/8WGtpfSfVW
