Another White life stolen on the Free State-Lesotho border, and the world just kept scrolling.

On 2 November 2011, 36-year-old farm manager Sean Schutte and his younger brother Louis (33) were working on Alpha farm near Ladybrand when armed men arrived at the farmhouse. The brothers did what so many of our farmers have been forced to do for decades, they jumped on a quad bike and chased the attackers.

They followed the men all the way to the Caledon River. There, at close range, Sean was shot twice. He died on the spot.

Louis was shot three times in the chest. He was left lying there, fighting for his life, while the attackers fled across the river into Lesotho, vanishing into the same porous border that has swallowed so many killers before and since.

Louis was airlifted to Mediclinic Bloemfontein in a critical condition. Sean was just 36. A young man. A brother. A farm manager trying to protect the land he worked. No dramatic “robbery gone wrong” story that ends with the attackers caught. No national outrage. Just another quiet funeral for another White farmer whose name most South Africans never even heard.

The same silence still smothers the truth. The same government still pretends these are just “ordinary crimes.”
