Lennart Poulsen is a barrister at 9 Bedford Row with significant senior-level experience in major public inquiries. He is currently acting as Junior Counsel for one of the Core Participants in the Grenfell Tower Inquiry.
While this announcement will be cautiously welcomed by many, the families of those who lost their lives to Covid, it remains to be seen what the scope of the inquiry will cover.

@pjm1kbw@Chevilang I agree. Nobody should have a direct line to the PM in order to negotiate personal tax issues. Irrespective of whether there was any legal wrong-doing such privileges circumvent established rules of transparency and erode trust in the government.
While this is a legitimate criticism, the importance of the development and uptake of the doctrine of universal jurisdiction is undeniable as it is another (and increasingly deployed) weapon in the fight against state impunity. #humanrights#justice#internationallaw 2/2
Universal jurisdiction has its flaws. Some have commented, for example, that national courts which do not implement the required nuance and specificity of international crimes in their domestic laws risk undermining the distinction between these and non-international crimes. 1/2
