(As it pertains the lion of the Midlands, He was a huge figure from KZN especially the Northern Territory of Natal and he was more forceful in approach and some within the ANC including President Tambo saw it as inciting more violence in the conflict between the ANC and the IFP in KZN Midlands, hence Tambo and Mandela eventually sent JZ who had a more subtle approach than Baba Gwala, in handling the KZN political violences. Mind you that Umtomdala was already in his late 60s during this period, and JZ was likely in his late 40s and early or mid 50s when he went to intervene in KZN. Surely Umtomdala, uBaba Gwala was going to feel somewhat undermined. Otherwise i doubt there was personal fight or dislike between the two KZN caders)
