@WileyGlobal@DrJennyG@EducationUoE@CamEdFac What are the implications? Concepts around friendship & good/bad friends should be routinely assessed and targeted (if appropriate) in interventions. The study highlights the need to continue discussing practices around sharing diagnoses with children with LD. #FriendshipMatters
@WileyGlobal@DrJennyG@EducationUoE@CamEdFac What's added? Our study asks children with LD about how they perceive friendship and make friends. Play and closeness are key for them in spotting true friends - shedding light on their vulnerability to false friends. Surprisingly, language barriers aren't seen as obstacles.
What's known?
Children with Language Disorder (LD) face peer relationship difficulties. Studies to date rely on sociometrics and adult reports. Only a few studies engage children with LD directly in friendship research.
