Economic Reality

The Minority’s argument is mathematically incomplete.

In economics, you don’t evaluate a balance sheet by isolating Cost (C) and ignoring Revenue (R), Surplus (S) and wider economic returns.

GoldBod recorded GH¢5.44bn overall surplus and GH¢909.7m operational surplus in 2025. The IMF also acknowledges that the gold programme helped build reserves and reduce FX-market pressure. (Modern Ghana)

So the proper equation is:

Net Economic Impact = Benefits − Costs

Not:

Net Impact = Costs alone.

If there are legitimate losses, account for them. But equally, account for the revenues, surpluses, FX inflows, reserve accumulation and macroeconomic benefits.

That is economics. Anything else is selective arithmetic.
