@glen_mcgregor Lies, damned lies, and statistics.
+0.4% YoY from March, when he became Prime Minister (Table 36-10-0434-02)
+1.1% YoY from April, when he was elected (Table 36-10-0434-02)
-0.05% YoY at market prices, expenditure-based, first quarter average (Table 36-10-0104-01)
@JohnJamesMI I don't know why I'm bothering, but here's another thing: the forests *have* to burn. It's built into the boreal forest life cycle. Like, some trees need fire to reproduce and lots of detritus doesn't break down in the cold and dry north unless it's burned to ash.
@tsunomakiwatame It seems Germany's licensing system is pretty strict. On the other hand, I'm surprised to learn that Japan doesn't have a licensing system. I suppose it's down to the difference in saltwater and freshwater fishing, eh? Japan is an island nation, after all.
@Osinttechnical I hope the residents get a sense of what their country has been doing to Ukraine for the past 4 years and do some serious reflection if they've supported it.
But I know that's not how the mind tends to work.
@glen_mcgregor It's a bit tangential, but seeing the donation page and the video marked from Juno News reminded me... what's the deal with True North's charity status? Is it just a gaping hole in the law that you can take over a charity and completely re-purpose it while retaining the benefits?
@Daanos_iii@ngelvy@Faytuks There were claims in early March that they were trying to arm them using Kurdish groups as an intermediary. In April, Trump accused the Kurds of simply keeping the weapons. Most said they never received any to begin with. So who knows? Maybe?
@spicytails To expound upon that a bit, there are some relatively common phrases about love that refer to the three Fates of Greek mythology or to some more vague cosmic destiny, but the red thread specifically is not present at all.
@The1Weazel@AndersonBooz@CanadianPolling Yeah. The coal jobs were unionised. When the jobs went away, so did the workers. The families that remained were largely libertarian-minded ranchers. Or so I read.
@CanadianPolling Yikes at that nearly net positive on China. We need to work with them, certainly, but let's not make the mistake of thinking they're suddenly our friend and ally.
@MikeSchreiner I can't make it to Toronto, but I expect to join the "Fight Ford" demonstration in Ottawa a couple days later. My own reason for going is concern about democratic integrity:
@USWPColby If you keep eschewing soft power for bluster and arrogance you'll find history repeating. The U.S. will win battles and lose wars. You can spend more than the next 9 nations combined on the military and it won't matter because you confuse that with having a coherent strategy.
@CanadianPolling 6% difference in support, 48% difference in seats. Incredible.
I'm not even mad, it's honestly just impressive how much the system can skew the results.
