Today, I had the honor of joining my brother, President Cyril Ramaphosa, at the Gallagher Convention Centre for the South Africa–Zimbabwe Business Forum.
Running alongside the 4th Session of our Bi-National Commission (BNC), this critical forum brings together business leaders and stakeholders from both nations to unlock massive trade and investment opportunities.
Our region is not poor in resources. We are endowed with critical minerals, fertile agricultural land, vibrant industries, and world-class universities. Most importantly, we have talented young people with ideas, energy, and ambition. The task before us is to unlock their inherent acumen to build a better future.
Our natural resources must increasingly feed industries within our own region and create value for our people—not for others. I am highly encouraged by the innovations emerging from our tertiary institutions and innovation hubs in agriculture, mining, manufacturing, engineering, and IT.
What must now follow is production. An innovation cannot just remain in a laboratory; it must be commercialized.Through this forum, our shared vision is clear:Together , we are driving sustainable economic growth, empowering our youth, and deepening regional integration. Africa is open for business!
Africa’s young people have the ideas, skills and ambition. The next step is turning innovation from universities and hubs into commercial products, enterprises and jobs. This is how we empower the next generation. 🚀🇿🇼 #NDS2#Vision2030#VakaZimbabwe

It was an honor to deliver the opening remarks today at the 4th Session of the Zimbabwe-South Africa Bi-National Commission (BNC) in Pretoria.
I want to extend my deepest gratitude to my brother, His Excellency President Cyril Ramaphosa, and the people of South Africa for their exceptionally warm welcome and generous hospitality.
Beyond our geographic borders, Zimbabwe and South Africa share deep-rooted historical relations, ancestry, cultural ties, and a common bond forged in our anti-colonial and anti-apartheid struggles. We are one people with linked destinies.
As we deliberate under the vital theme of infrastructure development, agriculture, and critical minerals transformation, our focus remains clear:
•De-risking our economies from external shocks
•Building strong, resilient regional supply chains
•Boosting mutual trade—noting that Zimbabwe imported $3.8 billion worth of goods from SA last year alone
Our partnerships across iron, steel, agriculture, healthcare, and education prove that together we are stronger. When South Africa thrives, Zimbabwe thrives too!
Let us continue to leverage our strategic economic projects to build a more prosperous future and a higher quality of life for all our peoples.

South Africa and Zimbabwe are moving to deepen bilateral trade and investment, with the two countries seeking to translate their longstanding political and historical ties into greater economic opportunities for their peoples.
Speaking at the Ministerial Meeting of the 4th Session of the Zimbabwe-South Africa Bi-National Commission, South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Hon. Ronald Lamola, called for stronger cross-border trade, joint investment projects and the development of economic value chains between the two neighbouring economies.
He highlighted priority projects including the Third Limpopo Bridge, the operationalisation of the Beitbridge One-Stop Border Post, fertiliser manufacturing, automotive component production, platinum and precious metals value addition, as well as cross-border industrial parks and special economic zones.
Minister Lamola also condemned xenophobia, stressing the importance of stronger people-to-people relations and regional social cohesion, while reaffirming that South Africa and Zimbabwe remain bound by a common history, culture and shared destiny.
He said political relations alone cannot sustain bilateral ties, emphasising that the partnership must deliver jobs, investment, trade and improved livelihoods for the people of both countries.
Zimbabwe continues to strengthen partnerships that advance national interests. The engagement between Minister @HonDrZhemuSoda and his Chinese counterpart provides another platform to deepen cooperation and create opportunities for the country’s media sector. #NDS2#AsakhiZim
