Nairobi County Head of Customer Care Services, Geoffrey Mosiria, has raised concerns over a trend of pedestrians who he said, are ignoring road safety measures and risking their lives by crossing busy roads instead of using available footbridges.

This evening along Mombasa Road, I witnessed a deeply concerning situation where some pedestrians blatantly disregarded traffic rules, avoiding designated footbridges and instead risking their lives by crossing busy roads amid fast-moving traffic. This dangerous behavior continues to put lives at risk and has contributed to a worrying number of fatal accidents on our roads.
We have received multiple reports of pedestrians being knocked down while attempting to cross in unsafe areas. These tragic incidents are entirely preventable if proper crossing points are used.
Our county officers will be deployed to enforce compliance and enhance safety along these roads. However, enforcement alone is not enough we all have a role to play in promoting road safety.
I appeal to all pedestrians to prioritize their safety by using footbridges and designated crossings at all times. Your life is invaluable. Let us work together to build a culture of responsibility and awareness on our roads, where every journey whether by foot or vehicle ends safely.
