Zimbabwe and China sign the China Aid Upgrading and Maintenance of Irrigation Project.
The Minister of Finance, Hon. Prof. M. Ncube and H.E. Ambassador Zhou Ding today, signed the letters of exchange on the China-Aid upgrading and maintenance of 9 key irrigation schemes across the country’s 6 provinces.
China has supported Zimbabwe’s irrigation and agricultural development through grant-based aid, technical assistance and equipment, formalised via bilateral agreements such as Letters of Exchange.
The programme will prioritise:
•Upgrading and maintenance of irrigation schemes to improve water management and boost agricultural productivity.
•Establishment of agricultural demonstration villages featuring modern irrigation technologies and farmer training.
•Borehole drilling and water infrastructure projects to support irrigation, livestock and community water access, especially in drought-prone areas.
•Provision of irrigation and agricultural equipment, alongside technical expertise from Chinese agricultural teams.
•Integration with broader food security and climate resilience efforts, including solar-powered water systems.
Overall, the Zim-Sino cooperation continues to enhance food security, rural livelihoods and climate resilience in Zimbabwe through improved irrigation and water access.
