I have observed a worrying trend where many groups are organizing award schemes for CEOs, institutions, Ministers, and other public officials.
Just as it happened under the previous administration, I have noticed that some State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) are being listed or advertised as sponsors of these awards.
Respectfully, I believe it may be necessary for the Chief of Staff to issue a directive on this matter. Significant amounts of funds appear to be going into sponsoring such events, yet the direct benefit to the social contract we signed with the Ghanaian people remains unclear.
Some of these institutions could instead be encouraged to channel their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) resources into more impactful projects such as the construction of schools, AstroTurfs, drilling of boreholes, refurbishment of markets, and other community-based interventions.
Unfortunately, some institutions seem to be continuing the NPP tradition of sponsoring awards largely for the purpose of receiving plaques and recognitions that create the impression of performance.
Anyway… what do I know?
NB : Disclaimer- I do not know the sponsors of this particular awards yet but what does it even mean ? Do they know the KPIs of each Minister ? What is Best Ministers Awards… ? Mtcwwww
Yesterday, I joyfully hosted Mr. Emmanuel Asamoah, Ghana’s victim of xenophobia we relocated from South Africa.
We had a great time together at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
I am pleased to disclose that business mogul, Mr. Ibrahim Mahama has reached out to me and offered to fully sponsor any business startup of Mr. Asamoah’s choice here in Ghana.
The GOLDBOD in just one year of its establishment, is touching many lives through its Special Interventions Program (SIP) as can be seen in this documentary

“I studied in Ghana, and there was a specific programme that only a few colleges offered. It was by far the most perspective-gaining and life-changing experience of my entire life.”

One government told us to prepare our own time table. Same government didn’t purchase fuel for the plants bcos they lost the elections.
On the other hand another government has cleared more than 70% of the energy debts and upgrading the existing plants.
The difference is clear
U grew up in a house of 8. Not once did you see your parents wear gloves while cooking but every meal was clean, proper, and nobody was falling sick.
Suddenly your eyes are open and you think every food vendor must wear gloves, even when they just serving the food, not cooking it
Each time I travel to other slightly more transport resilient cities, I feel lethargic, knowing that our beloved Ghana needs such interventions, a modally complimentary transport system.
A modern, well designed system that is cost effective and efficient. The world Bank has been positing since 2011, that for Ghana to achieve its full middle income status, the country will have to improve upon transportation.
I am delighted like many others that at Least President John Mahama is focusing on what we already have- improving transport infrastructure especially the roads through the Big Push investment. Now we must look at water transport, our lakes, our rivers, landing sites, railways at least maybe a tram service or an overground train service just to improve mobility and ease congestion. I have recently come across a young woman on SM currently sharing some wonderfully interesting ideas on how to improve transportation in Ghana.
My only point of disagreement is that yes we do need options to road transport but for now we need safer and more motor-able roads. This will save us money, cut travel time, reduce commuter fares and stress reduce road congestion and crashes.
We certainly deserve and need better roads but it is time to consider some serious alternatives to travel by road.

The Greater Accra Regional Minister is doing a terrible job at keeping the city bright. A terrible job. Accra is so dark at night. President @JDMahama Accra is so dark at night and drivers struggle to see.
