A tiny rescued #leopard cub experiences monsoon for the first time...

As things change very quickly with regard to COVID-19, we'll tweet from @WildTigernews from this point.
Protected Area (PA) management has never been more critical than it is now and big cats, as the apex and guardians of ecosystems in so many PAs, need help more than ever.
The Wildlife Kids Classes are as important to us as all aspects of our work, The current situation with COVID-19 means we have to adjust how the kids continue to learn but learn they will.
For now updates on these classes will be at https://t.co/5RtbZiN9bK
Yesterday marked 10 weeks since the last human fatality in conflict with big cats in Bardia/Banke/Kata zone, a woman killed by leopard. We're monitoring that area heavily. Wildlife behavior due to anthropological pressures is ever changing, we have to adjust ours. Update soon.
COEXISTENCE GUIDELINE POSTERS There's a growing number of requests for these especially from India. We'll have supply soon + we're just completing a generic digital file (in Hindi). Email [email protected] ... no, we're not supplying Anjel (see image) with the guidelines :)
A lot going on at the moment, we'll have an update on our work in mid March.
The new guidelines for coexistence (in Nepali language) with big cats are now being distributed to key areas in collaboration with orgs we work alongside.
The LBC kids including Ridam + Shokira (right, now 4 and taking the classes much more seriously than when she was 3) were at a planning meeting today. A big emphasis on birds this year in the classes, starting tomorrow with the peafowl.

Technology, forensics but most of all communication are keys to conflict mitigation.
Coexistence with big cats is vital in so many ways, it's never going to be totally without incident but we can reduce conflict with effort and support.
We have the tools to do that.
Through LeopardEye we got the image in real time thus able to warn locals.
A woman had been killed by #leopard a few days earlier close to this camera location.
Key to coexistence is both parties having their space... reduce opportunities for conflict.
Update soon.
This particular project, to help over 150 kids be safe in a difficult jungle area is getting our focus as it can be a platform for other highly affected areas.
Reduce conflict and then tolerance increases, retaliation decreases.
COEXISTENCE STRATEGIES - A remote school's future in doubt because of fear of attacks by leopard, more shortly in updates and blogs because there are solutions, they just require effort and support...
Update soon as we work on serious human-leopard conflict situation in a remote area. High level of risk, a normal school roll of 150 is down to less than 50 due to fear of situation, putting school's future in doubt. Some children walk 90 min each way through thick, steep jungle
COEXISTENCE TEAM currently monitoring 4 key areas, most recent attack by a leopard on a woman this morning
Reducing conflict has outcome of reducing retaliation
Appeal starting mid Jan but an urgent need NOW for more cameras - please email [email protected] if you can help
A group of Living with Big Cats learn from ocean species conservationists Jeff and Katy. As part of VISION 2020 the kids are gearing up to present short clips of video and drama based around human and wildlife coexistence.
Nearly 7 weeks since the last human fatality (in our main working area), let's get through this week and start the 2020 goals.
Reducing serious conflict increases tolerance and reduces retaliation.
From 1 Jan some online changes to reflect our work.
Merry Christmas and a quick tweet as there's been a lot of interest in the kid's program. As part of that, THE DANCING LEOPARDS gave their first performance yesterday, fun combined with the coexistence message.
Update and info on direction 1 Jan 2020
Winter guidelines for human and big cat coexistence in Nepali. More wood is collected from forests in the cooler months increasing the opportunities for conflict. Following simple guidelines can reduce the risk. English versions and other details at https://t.co/Q77IwO8mHB
All aspects of our work are part of symbiotic relationships within the project.
Here Nirajan places a camera in a high conflict area, this helps protect people (real time transmission) thus protecting a tiger from retaliation.
We then explain these aspects at the kid's classes.
For the Early Learner's Classes we build documentaries and slide shows which tell the truth about what is happening to #wildlife worldwide. We also give them hope by explaining solutions.
These kids, as young as 6, take it in, they nod their heads in determination.
#education
There's a short post re this at https://t.co/w2fRp9B7FN but real time monitoring with LeopardEye is vital. This image just sent to base through the network as the team monitors tiger movement in a village area close to a where a human fatality occurred.
These orders are becoming more prevalent in South Asia. Our goal, while we work on the ground, is developing models which include being proactive, tech and above strong communication so that life can be preserved on both sides in the human- big cat coexistence challenge.
IMPORTANCE OF RAPID RESPONSE
A female #tiger with cubs has just entered a buffer zone forest close to where a man was killed a few months ago. Fast response + assessment + use of LeopardEye important to calm locals.
All cases different. Weekly updates https://t.co/i8zX0v6t2O
