Historian here. Donbas was never a territory of Russia. Until 18 century, it was used (but not inhabited) by predominantly Turkic nomadic tribes (but also Greeks); it was called a "Wild Field" because there were almost no permanent settlements there due to constant infighting between those tribes and Ukrainian Cossacks.

Then, after the threat was eliminated, Ukrainians started to create basically the first settlements in centuries in this "Ukrainian Wild East" repopulating this wasteland.

The process was later fueled by investments of British and French industrial magnates (which is why one of the original names of Donet'sk is Yuzivka - it was developed by the Welsh businessman John Hughes, but the city itself was founded by Ukrainian Cossacks as Oleksandrivka). Thus, the Donbas population census of the 1920s has clear numbers - 64% identified themselves as Ukrainians and only 26% as Russians.

But because of Holodomor, which specifically targeted Ukrainians and migration (often forced by the Soviet Union), the number of Ukrainians in 1939 fell to 61% while Russians grew to 36%. But they never were a majority, not even once for the last 10 centuries.

So Kremlin is using ignorance and laziness to make you believe in the lies they are spreading to prove their territorial claims. And extremely diverse and sometimes complicated history of Ukrainian Donbas is not something that is often studied in universities outside Ukraine.|

Over the next few days and weeks, Ukraine will face their hardest time.

BUT THIS WAS INEVITABLE AND WAS MUCH NEEDED.

Here is a brief summary of my predictions about what will happen next.

America has done everything in its power to make Ukraine give up Ukrainian land, peoples homes and lives. Ukraine will not do this. Zelensky will not do this.

The Trump administration will do everything in their power, along with a barrage of Russian propaganda, to destroy Zelensky's character, to destroy the view of the Ukrainian government.

They will do everything in their power to stop support for Ukraine.

But please understand:

EUROPE STANDS WITH UKRAINE. UKRAINE WILL NOT GIVE UP. AND UKRAINE WILL WIN THIS WAR.

The reason why Trump is clawing so desperately to end this now is because Russian is losing and is facing a collapse of their economy and following their forces.

Ukraine is growing stronger every day. Do not give up on them and get ready to start shutting the propaganda down ASAP.

DOOMERS WILL BE BLOCKED.
