🕯️ A giant of mātauranga Māori has fallen silent.
Sir Hirini Moko Mead — renowned scholar, educator, writer, artist, advocate and one of the most influential Māori leaders of the modern era — has passed away at the age of 99.
His legacy helped reshape the place of te ao Māori within education, museums, language revitalisation, governance, and national identity. From the groundbreaking Te Māori exhibition to the advancement of kaupapa Māori scholarship, his impact will continue to be felt for generations.
A life dedicated to culture, knowledge, language and the future of Māori.
