My wife sent me this off-guard picture, and it hit me different.
I love putting my son inside my white beater, skin to skin, letting him hear his father’s heart. Sometimes it beats calm, and sometimes it races…because I’m still nervous. I’m still trying to understand that I’m holding a reflection of me. A whole life that came from me. An answered prayer laying on my chest.
Then I looked at this picture and realized one thing…this is what I worked for.
This is what I stood on stages for the last 18 years for. What I got stabbed for, shot for, robbed for, handcuffed for, survived for, succeeded for, and evolved for.
Not so my son could repeat my story… but so he would never have to.
I’m from the streets in real life, and I’ll never be ashamed of where I come from. But my son will never believe he has to be accepted by the streets. Nah, boy. Your daddy already did that. Your daddy already paid that price for us.
Now it’s time for me to show you how to be a man in this world. How to accept everything life sends your way and still move with grace. Still have morals. Still choose love. How to be strong without losing your heart.
I’m going to teach you family, generational wealth, financial literacy, economics, law, health, and the study of human beings. I want you to understand how this world works, but more importantly, I want you to know exactly who you are before the world ever tries to tell you.
A father of four called 911 to report that he had killed his entire family, before turning the gun on himself in an apparent murder-suicide, police in Kansas said. https://t.co/ySNviI3fNF
This happened last week in Arlington, Virginia.
Noah, 36, an Army veteran with two tours in Afghanistan and PTSD, was shopping in the packed store when someone dropped a heavy box. The crash triggered a flashback - Noah collapsed on the floor, curled up, shaking, yelling "CONTACT! GET DOWN!" Shoppers gathered, worried, unsure what to do.
His five-year-old German Shepherd service dog, Ranger, went to work - circling Noah in a complete protective perimeter, growling low at anyone who tried to approach. When store manager Kevin tried to help, Ranger barked a sharp warning and Noah backed off.
For nine full minutes, Ranger never broke position while Noah's flashback continued.
Then Noah's breathing slowed, the screaming stopped, and he came back: "I'm... 'm at Target." Seeing Ranger still circling, he said quietly: "Stand down, Ranger. Good boy." Ranger relaxed and licked his face.
Kevin approached carefully: "Sir, are you alright? Should I call medical?" Noah explained: "PTSD flashback. I'm okay now."
"That dog protected him," Kevin told us. "We literally could not get close."
"Ranger creates a barrier when I have flashbacks in public," Ryan said. "Keeps me safe until I come back."
Sometimes an American veteran needs a dog who becomes a living wall.
Mississippi officials say a fake toxicology report about Nolan Xavier Wells has been circulating online, while the official report has not yet been publicly released. Misinformation only deepens this grieving family's pain. We must remain focused on the facts and ensure Nolan’s family receives the truth they have been waiting for. https://t.co/vm8LWJEXi0
