It’s been a tough week. My husband declined dialysis due a week. I took him today. On the way home he wanted jack-in-the-box tacos. I drove out of my way to get them. The drive thru young man asked me if I was wearing blue contacts. I cracked up laughing —nope me.

LALA MISSES DIRECT HIT AS HAWAII FACES A NEW THREAT

Lala never made direct landfall… yet look at what it left behind.

• Nearly 3 feet of rain in the hardest-hit areas
• More than 200,000 customers lost power at the peak
• Homes swept away by raging floodwaters
• Dozens of roads closed or covered in debris
• Hospitals forced onto backup generators
• Winds topped 100 mph at higher elevations
• At least one person dead

And Hawaii isn’t out of this yet.

Lala took a remarkable path nearly parallel to the island chain, pushing impacts from the Big Island toward Maui, Oʻahu and Kauaʻi without the center ever crossing the Big Island.

And the next problem is already taking shape.

Nearly three feet of rain has left parts of Hawaii completely saturated.

Mountainsides are soaked. Water is still draining through rivers and streams. Roads and power infrastructure are damaged. And unstable slopes could remain vulnerable to landslides and debris flows even after the worst weather is gone.

Update: The intensity of Hurricane Lala is forecast to remain steady over the next few hours as the hurricane remains near South Point of the Big Island.

Steady weakening is expected later tonight into Sunday as Lala passes south of the smaller main Hawaiian Islands.
