I firmly believe the mothers of the Cape Flats have what it takes to drive real change in their communities. Our mission is to equip them with the tools and knowledge so they can stand on their own and lead.

For too long, their vulnerability has left them dependent on political parties that show up with a T-shirt and a bucket of KFC, expecting votes in return. Don’t hand over your vote until you’ve seen a real plan.

When I arrived today I was met with gunshots, only to learn that the father of a girl at our meeting had just been shot and killed. My condolences to the family.

Thank you to the Mitchell’s Plain moms for inviting me today. I’ll be back with feedback on the challenges you raised - from pensioners supporting children battling addiction and abuse, to the city’s unaffordable rates and taxes.
