We need Government to give clarity to the self-catering sector so we can trade. The requirement for all Self-catering to have planning is causing a lot of stress for SME business owners.

The purpose was to have a common database for sharing with online booking platforms and gather data for impact on housing.

At Committee meeting Sen. Linda Nelson Murray asked what should be done to regulate the sector. Eoghan o Mara Walsh called for a 9 month period for planning compliance as properties fall off a cliff. Properties not able to trade with serious loss to local community.
Eurostat date on the online booking platforms has increase in Summer 2025. 20 most popular tourist regions were all located in just 5 EU countries: 6 regions were in Spain, 6 in France, 5 in Italy, 2 in Portugal, and 1 in Croatia. Ireland is way down the list.
