My # 1 piece of advice for anyone pursuing an autism evaluation, ESPECIALLY if you're high masking...
Do NOT go into the evaluation without first reading and understanding the autism criteria and writing down every example you can think of from your life for each one...
I think autistic people are often mistakenly seen as selfish/self-centered because we are frequently too distracted by things that are making us unbearably uncomfortable to focus on anything other than making ourselves less uncomfortable
If small talk is painful for you... eye contact is painful for you... and pretending to be interested in something you have zero interest in is painful for you...
You may be autistic... or have anxiety... or both.
Just FYI 😅
Every single autism diagnosis should immediately qualify a person for therapy. (Therapy should be free anyway, but that's an entirely different conversation).
So I have a question. If autistic people largely thrive on routine, habit and familiarity - while ADHDers thrive on novelty, dopamine and the new - how do people audhd people like… manage?
i'm a mindfulness teacher and I hate to break it to you but...
the reason you have toxic and abusive relationships isn't because you're broken.
it's because of childhood trauma.
here's everything you need to know about it (and how to stop it ruining your relationships): 🧵
The guy who helped millions heal their chronic anxiety and depression:
Michael singer.
I read his book “The Untethered Soul” at the peak of my anxiety 5 years ago.
Here are the 4 core lessons from it that I took into my life that helped me heal my anxiety(with no trace):
As an autistic (level 1) person... I feel like my autism is only about 10% observable (and due to YEARS of masking, you'd have to be looking VERY closely to see it) and 90% internal, which impacts every aspect of how I exist.
And I feel like more people should know this.
Ryan is 28 today. He's kind , caring, and has a wicked sense of humour. He's autistic he goes to a daycentre and doesn't have the traditional circle of friends , but he does have lots and lots of online friends. Please wish him a happy birthday.
