British Ambassador to Viet Nam, Iain Frew met with Viet Nam Minister of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) Do Duc Duy

Ambassador Frew highlighted the close cooperation between the British Embassy Hanoi and MONRE and emphasised that driving the net zero, climate-resilient and nature-positive transition is central to the UK - Viet Nam relationship – seen in the UK’s firm commitment to co-leading the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP).

Minister Do Duc Duy thanked the Ambassador for the UK’s support to Viet Nam on the issues of climate change, environmental protection, biodiversity conservation, circular economy, and disaster response. Specifically, the UK has provided £1 million in emergency funding to support Typhoon Yagi response and recovery; and £1.5m support for the JETP Secretariat.

The Minister updated the Ambassador on progress in delivering the JETP, Paris Agreement commitments, and preparation for the forthcoming COP16 and COP29 international summits. The Minister expressed his interest in closer collaboration with the UK on climate finance, environment and nature, whereby both agreed to clearly capture areas of UK - Viet Nam cooperation in an MoU.
