Dear Mr #TanmayaTyagi (cartoonist) assistive devices like crutches actually provide empowerment & independence. Using them this way can perpetuate misconceptions.

Portraying crutches positively can highlight the strength & resilience of those (like me) who use them.

Caution for persons with Depression
Sometimes a person with clinical depression, finds his job too much of an effort, even when the person has done the same job well for years. Since many times there is a diurenal variation of mood and mornings are the worst, he tries to avoid going for work.
Because of this depression is often wrongly attributed by family to job stress. The wife may encourage him to resign in a desperate hurry to remove the 'cause' and see him better.
When the patient recovers after treatment, he deeply regrets the decision and then there is another blue funk to deal with.
Hence the axiom, ‘Do not make ANY important decision while depressed.’

Just one aberration that l see as a pattern in all such conversations
#mentalhealth and #psychosocial Disability are just not 'included' in the Inclusion narratives!
