Some residents have now retained an attorney to defend themselves against the Ambiance Owners Association.

Jacob Mantle spelled out the reality facing young people trying to buy a home in Canada right now.

Average salaries no longer buy average homes. Not in Vancouver. Not in Toronto. Not in most of the country. Prices have raced ahead of incomes for a decade. First-time buyers are older than ever before. Nationally around 36. Forty in Toronto. Forty-six in Vancouver. Family formation is getting delayed or abandoned altogether because ownership feels impossible.

Canada now has the worst housing affordability in the entire OECD. And this is not some global trend we cannot escape. Other countries have not deteriorated at the same rate. Canada stands out for how badly it has failed its young people.

Even those who scrape into the market are house poor. Mortgage payments are swallowing more than half of their income.

This condo bailout does nothing to fix any of it. It props up the same broken system. It blocks the natural correction that overpriced markets desperately need.

Young Canadians get squeezed harder while the connected developers get protected.

The numbers do not lie. The policy choices do not help.
