How can you support Asian-origin colleagues? Ask if you’re saying our names correctly. The SRI in my surname is pronounced “sher-ree” (2 syll) not “shree”(1 syll). Twenty years on faculty and still trying to reclaim my name! @ZoologyUBC@UBCBiodiversity
@CorvaCorvidae@mfczap Yes, I have a similar thought process when I get emails from students. Although I did have a huge moment of panic as an undergrad when a prof signed off not just with her first name but her nickname. Sooo much stress! 😂
I'm hiring! 3 experienced research assistants @sfu for short-term #DBER analysis/writing work (now-January). Projects: group exams & gender dynamics; TA community; class observations & student learning. Eligible to work in 🇨🇦? Please apply! https://t.co/J0VyeSQsAn (Oct 9 posts)
@gerlame @Apex_Herbivore Stress it’s not a big punitive question but something like first time let it go, second time remind them of the agreement, third time talk to the TA. That helps them evaluate their contributions more easily
@gerlame @Apex_Herbivore It’s also helpful if you pair this with a written group agreement about how they want to work together. Not just do things in time but what does on time look like. A day early? An hour? Also have them discuss how to deal with breaking the rules. 1/2
I wrote a thing! Have been thinking a lot about how the #forestfiresmoke we are breathing now brings us closer to understanding how #oceanacidification may feel for marine life. Thanks to the @thenarwhalca for supporting and publishing my work! https://t.co/G3dawDSgAE
Realized as I was packing and moving to a new apartment that this was waaaay less stressful than packing and traveling for a field season... #phdlife#fieldwork#ecology
