A powerful lesson from the Lubavitcher Rebbe on dealing with Jew Hater’s.

In the early 1980s, @AlanDersh was upset when Chabad honored Senator Jesse Helms, whom he viewed as hostile to Israel. He wrote a sharp letter to the Rebbe questioning the decision.

The Rebbe replied that the goal of engaging public figures is not to reward their past, but to influence their future.

Years later, Helms became one of Israel’s strongest supporters in the U.S. Senate, and Dershowitz acknowledged that the Rebbe’s approach had worked.

The Rebbe didn’t just see people for who they were, he saw who they could become
