What a magical moment that is for everyone associated with St Mirren.
Just under 4 years in charge for Stephen Robinson. His emotion at that final whistle is fantastic to see.
Those St Mirren fans getting a day out that those glory hunters amongst the Celtic fanbase can only dream of. When you support your local through thick and thin it means 1,000 times more than those who ‘pick’ what team to support. They deserve to enjoy every minute of this
It's the first major domestic cup final of the season tomorrow as St.Mirren take on Celtic at Hampden Park in the Premier Sports League Cup showpiece.
Yes, it is a major and you only think it's not because your team is oot!
Here's an unashamedly completely biased micro preview.
TV & KO
As you might expect the game is exclusively live on the sponsors channel, and it's a 15:30 kick off and what looks like being a very wet and windy Hampden.
TICKETS
Save some seats set aside for segregation the game is a sell out.
It's a glory hunters day out for the Super Saints who have sold 3 times their current season ticket numbers for the game, with 14K buddies making the short trip to Mount Florida.
Celtic fans, officially voted the whiniest in Europe, will make up the rest of the gate with many of them still utterly disgusted that the game wasn't moved to Parkhead.
If you know your history...
You will know that Wilfried Nancy has stastically made the worst start of any Celtic manager in history.
And remember, this is a club that had John fucking Barnes as gaffer at one point.
Getting Here
Saints had to navigate 7 matches to get this far, starting off with a loss on penalties at foggy but beautiful Arbroath way back on 12th July.
The Buddies then overcame Forfar, Annan Athletic and Ayr Utd to squeeze through their group but they were non-seeds in the knockouts.
Penalties were again at the fore as Saints saw off Premiership foes Hearts and then Kilmarnock on spot kicks to set up a Semi against swashbuckling Motherwell.
A classic Stephen Robinson masterclass then saw Paisley's finest make their first cup final since 2013 after dismantling the scintillating Steelmen who haven't lost a game since.
Celtic beat Falkirk, Partick Thistle and Rangers.
Previous Meetings
This is already the third meeting of the clubs this season with Celtic winning both of the previous league matches 1-0 thanks to late, late winners from Luke McCowan and most recently Callum McGregor.
Fun fact, which isn't actually that fun, is that in the last three meetings of the sides, Saints have only trailed Celtic for 3 minutes in total, yet they've not won any of the matches.
Last Time At Hampden
Let's get back to some good stuff, cos that last section was shite.
The last time the two sides met at Hampden was also in the League Cup on 27th Jan 2013, when goals from Esmael Goncalves, Paul McGowan and Steven Thompson earned the men in stripes a sensational 3-2 victory.
Saints of course went on to lift the trophy that season, beating Hearts 3-2 in the final.
So, there's been 5 goals in all of Saints last 3 visits to Hampden.
Referee
The man with the whistle tomorrow is the excellent, and dare I say it, extremely handsome Kevin Clancy.
He will be assisted by the superb Don "Disco" Robertson who is on VAR and goal line technology will also be in use as, you know, this is a MAJOR cup final.
Bookies
Celtic might be playing like a pub team right now but the bookies still make them 4/9 to get the job done in 90 minutes with Saints a lot shorter than usual but still a chunky 21/4 with the draw a 10/3 option.
DIvs Best Bets
I'm not gonna tempt fate by betting on this game, certainly not in public anyway, but a couple of St.Mirren related nuggets for anyone putting on a bet builder tomorrow.
In the unlikely event that Saints get a penalty (did I mention how handsome Kevin Clancy is) either Marcus Fraser or Richard King would take it, and both are priced at 16/1 anytime.
Declan John is Saints resident free kick expert, and he is a massive 22/1 to hit the net anytime.
You don't need me to tell you that any of Gogic, Baccus or Phillips would be a decent shout for a card.
Best of Luck
Look, this page is as neutral as I can make it but I'm can't be wishing Celtic good luck in a final against my own team can I?
So the very, very, very best of luck to St.Mirren tomorrow.
If we come up short, you might not hear from me for a couple of days cos I will be in a massive sulk.
If we take that cup back to Paisley, you definitely will hear from me, a lot, over the next couple of days and I will probably be talking more shite than usual.
May the best team win, and may that team be St.Mirren. Here's to you Stephen Robinson. COYS!
@ATVIAssist hi I need help, I’ve logged on to my account and my name has been changed without my knowledge. I now have no changes available and am looking the get it back to the previous name if possible. This must of happened within the last day whilst I wasn’t playing.
