Reasons why you should throw away plastic chopping boards like this:
> shed microplastics during cutting
> older / damaged boards shed more
> microplastics enter ecosystems
> pollute environment
> microplastics absorbed when eaten
> now found in every tissue: brain, lung, GI, placenta, breast milk
> found in 100% of testicles when tested
> trigger for inflammation + oxidative stress
> act as endocrine disruptors
> found in atheromas and carotid plaques
> driver for cardiovascular risk
> possible link to IBD and cancer
> damaged boards also trap bacteria
Wooden boards produce no microplastics and are easier to clean 💡
“We often talk of saving the planet. But the truth is, we must do these things to save ourselves. With or without us, the wild will return.”
— David Attenborough
🚨3 people on a cruise dead of Hanta Virus. Three dead and multiple suspected cases after a hantavirus outbreak aboard the MV Hondius cruise ship sailing from Argentina to Cape Verde. WHO confirms 1 case and 5 suspected; a UK passenger is in ICU in Johannesburg. Hantavirus spreads from rodent exposure and can cause severe respiratory illness which is why this is so unusual. Usually seen in the Western US and NOT spread person to person but rodent to person. Here's a MedCram we did on it when Gene Hackman and his wife died recently (wife died of Hanta Virus) - They lived in New Mexico.
🚨🚨🚨Important exception: Andes virus (found in parts of Argentina and Chile) is the only hantavirus known to spread person-to-person in rare cases—like between close household contacts or healthcare workers and patients

Life evolves slowly through tiny mutations, but sometimes a single mutation creates something that feels like a glitch in the matrix.
Here are four of nature’s most beautiful accidents 🧵
Some cells "break" these size constraints.
Case in point: a bacterium called Thiomargarita magnifica can exceed one centimeter in diameter (visible to the eye)...

#ToxicTown is a pretty decent 3 star look at one of the biggest environmental scandals in history. With just 4 eps, the show never outstays its welcome. Jodie Whittaker is phenomenal, reminding us just how talented she is and Aimee Lou Wood is reliably great too. Worth seeing!
