also its important to keep in mind that the majority of people who do detransition do it because of discrimination and social pressure (not being able to get a job, etc.), not because they don't want to be the opposite sex anymore
did some napkin math on this
Texas has ~31.7 million people
Trans people are ~2% of the population
~1% of trans people "change their mind" and tetransition (high end estimate)
since this only covers people 21 and younger, let's assume that...
...about a third of detransitioners fall into this age range.
In total that's ~2000 people (high end estimate) covered by this in a state of 31.7 million
This cost $10 million by the way, and is only at one hospital in a state roughly twice the size of Germany.
🚨Today, Texas Children’s Hospital has officially launched their Detransition Clinic 🚨
Under the settlement, TCH must provide multidisciplinary detransition-related care FREE OF CHARGE for five years, including endocrinology, surgery, primary care, fertility counseling, mental health services, social work, and speech pathology.
I extend my heartfelt gratitude once again to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and my attorneys at the Burke Law Group for their extraordinary dedication, sacrifice, and tireless efforts throughout this fight. Their commitment helped turn a painful and difficult chapter into an opportunity for meaningful change. @KenPaxtonTX@BurkeLawTweets
I think of all the detransitioners who have suffered in silence, been dismissed, and fought desperately to have their voices heard. This win is for them.
I hope TCH’s admirable effort to fund and launch Americas first detransition clinic becomes a turning point for the entire country. That this clinic is not the exception, but the first of many.
Today’s a good day. ❤️

@scottbraddock yah my mom voted for talarico and abbot and my dad voted for abbot but didnt vote in the senate race (which is a big deal to him) abbot is generally kinda respected among republicans, and people 100% will cross party lines when things get bad enough
Today I learned that the second wealthiest country (China) is just barely not considered a high income nation because while their raw gdp is high, they have so many people that their gdp per capita isn’t high enough. Kinda crazy. In other news I’m an eepy puppy who needs cuddles.
