So I've been using Godot for a month now and it looks very capable of 3D!
Let's do a quick recap. Right now it has these things out of the box:
- Indirect light (VoxelGI, SDFGI, SSIL)
- Volumetric light
- Screen-space reflections
- Depth of Field
- Auto-exposure
- SSAO
- Decals
- Light cookies
- FSR upscaling
- Realistic physical sky shader
- A cool built-in surface shader that does all sorts of things including refraction, proximity fade, billboarding, etc
- Occlusion culling
- Auto LOD generation!
Things that are missing for now, as of Godot 4.2 are:
- Motion blur
- Texture streaming
- Color grading and curves (only LUTs for now)
- Custom post-processing
- VFX graph (like UE Niagara or Unity's vfx graph)
- Lens flares?
When these things find their way into Godot (especially motion blur and custom post-processing) it's gonna be quite something!
