💰 FIFA's Ten Million Dollar Price Gouge

FIFA are a charity and so pay hardly any tax on their revenue. In December they will ask fans to apply for tickets to their nation’s group stage games AND every possible knockout round through to the World Cup Final.

Supporters must pay in February for all potential matches, with refunds issued in July if those games never materialise.

If 50,000 fans worldwide opt in and their teams go out early, FIFA would temporarily hold €425m for non-existent tickets (based on cat 2 prices) generating an estimated €7m in interest over 5 months.

When issuing refunds after the tournament, FIFA will charge a $10 fee per TICKET, not per person, for QR codes to matches that never existed. At 50,000 fans, that would add roughly $2.5m in extra revenue.
