What followed by wasn't any a simple rebuild .

It has become a chain reaction of expensive decisions that would haunt the club for years.

After nermer left the PSG in 2017
Barcelona suddenly had €222M in the bank and the pressure to replace one of the three members of MSN was enormous .
Instead of talking their time and rebuilding strategically , barca went into the market aggressively .

First came ousmane dembele from borussia Dortmund .

The pipe continho arrived from Liverpool .

And two years later, Barcelona spent another huge fee to bring back Antoine Griezmannn from atlenico Madrid.

And the €222M that looked like a financial jackpot after Neymar's departure became part of a much bigger spending story.
Barcelona's financial problems were caused by multiple factors — including wages, other transfer spending, revenue decisions, the pandemic and later stadium-related financing — so it would be too simplistic to say the Neymar money alone caused the club's debt crisis. But the post-Neymar spending spree became one of the most talked-about chapters in Barça's financial decline.
Barcelona didn't just lose Neymar.
They lost the opportunity to turn €222M into a sustainable rebuild.
And years later, the question remains:

“I have to be honest, I’m speechless. The noise around the Ballon d’Or is becoming too much. When I look back at the era of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, they never needed to do this much talking. They let their football speak for them — trophies, goals, assists and performances on the biggest stages. That’s what made their Ballon d’Or campaigns so convincing.

Now I look at Mbappé and Yamal and I honestly wonder what is going on. They are fighting and talking about an award that, in my opinion, neither of them did enough to win this season. Mbappé couldn’t lead Real Madrid to a major trophy, while we all saw what happened to Barcelona against Atlético Madrid in the Champions League.

And with Yamal, we also saw his performances on the biggest international stage. Being talented is not enough. The Ballon d’Or should be about what you actually achieved throughout the season, especially when your team needs you the most.

I’m disappointed because both are incredible players, but you have to be consistent. You have to decide big games, carry your team when everything is on the line and deliver when your team is close to going home. That’s where I don’t think either of them did enough.

You cannot win the Ballon d’Or simply because you play for Real Madrid or Barcelona. Forget the noise, forget the interviews and focus on winning trophies, producing big numbers and deciding the biggest matches. Let your football do the talking — that’s how the greatest players earned this award.”
