Please remember if you haven't been in the teacher's classroom or been diligent about checking in and checking on them f2f/remotely, don't let your first encounter be a formal evaluation. Make the connections before the corrections.
As a principal, I’m supposed to be an “instructional leader.” But I told our teachers this week, that I don’t know how to do that in the middle of a pandemic.
Right now is not the best time to talk about programs, plans, data points, and “best practices.” It is time to support.
Schools had SEL when I was a kid. It was known as daily recess, physical education, art , music, creating plays in class, working on projects instead of worksheets, longer lunches, & even nature walks. This is how we grew academically as well as socially & emotionally.
Two questions I ask every time I walk through a bookstore:
📚 What if teachers were given a monthly book budget (or, you know, just paid more)?!
📚 Why are so many schools still forcing students to read the same old stuff year after year? #ProjectLITchat
Putting Maslow Before Bloom can help students flourish socially, emotionally, and academically—especially when you weave it throughout the school day. 🌱
Teachers, if you create an assignment in Google Classroom, please put a due date on it. You can change the due date. Many students use the To Do tab to check assignment and if you don’t put a due date, it does not show as missing.
I think my teacher evaluations for the year are done, goes something like this: You pivoted, adapted, you were flexible & persevered, you were resilient, you showed grace, you worked your tail off & you did it! Thank you, thank u! What educators have accomplished is unbelievable!
Week 4 - already?
Keep on going - we are hearing great things about conversations and products created in courses.
Are you thinking that you might #learnwithNorthTIER again in the fall?
Check out the @NorthTIER website later this month for course dates and times.
I'm reading through the CDC guidelines for reopening schools and schools thought they had trouble getting subs before, its going to get worse. Just a thought. So many of the subs are older, retired teachers, people with underlying conditions etc.
For students who don't have access to printers, using #GoogleSlides can be a simple way to turn printable activities into engaging digital ones. Thanks for the tip, @ZakKolar!
