@cdpiglet Mike, I know words won't make it better. But man I 🙏 for you and your family. I hope yall can find peace as time passes. We have to be thankful for each day we are alive. Please as this difficult process happens. Do your best to just focus on all the good times yall shared 💙
@TheMiddler11@davehelman_ I feel Pickens case is unique and as much as the agent and Pickens might want to draw this out. They would be aware if other teams were interested in him. Likely no teams showed trade interest. So ultimately, it's a take the 27mil. Have a great season. His stock goes up.
💯 on this. Be your best till then. He earns the right to be paid. If Cowboys decide to BS with him next offseason and use the tag again. He will have earned the right to be unhappy and holdout etc. If Cowboys drag their feet on extending him. A trade demand would be warranted.
Every decision George Pickens makes from now until March should be with the goal of being the highest-paid WR in the NFL in 2027.
This is a good first step.
If Pickens has another good/great season and Cowboys decide to tag him again and slow play/not try to give him a longterm deal. I will have no issue if he holds out etc next offseason. Because at that point you either pay him or let him go elsewhere.
Happy to hear this. Hopefully it means he will be with the team for the offseason and no drama/sitting out. I'm all for Pickens getting his money. But his situation is unique and he really needs another "good/great" year to get that big payday he wants/deserves.
Supposedly already had talks. But was that before both these picks? If so.. Cowboys should definitely revisit. You just never know.. their tune could have changed now.
I mean... no team has drafted this player. There has to be some serious concerns health wise. Also good on Cowboys. They need players who can compete asap. Especially when you have a FO that refuses to do much to improve their roster via free agency.
Jerry Jones seems to indicate the Cowboys will continue to use the “no redshirt,” rule when it comes to the draft into the fourth round. Read between lines if want on Jermod McCoy if you want.
I still would like the Cowboys to float one of them 4th rd picks Mia's way for LB Brooks. Not saying he will be great.. but adding a veteran like him to a defensive group that will have a lot of young players. I think it's important. Not asking to offer a ton. Just entertain it.
The Cowboys have three fourth round picks left. Stephen Jones said the meet of the draft is in the fourth and fifth rounds and expects the Cowboys to land some players they have third round grades on their board in Day 3.
Cowboys are putting effort into helping the defense improve. I give them credit. Job isn't done though.. and I would feel a lot better if they gave a bit more effort in free agency. Asking your rookie class to give you a ton of quality reps this year.. asking a lot.
You have helped the defense. Changed? I think that's a bit much. Still a lot of questions and more "quality" bodies needed in a couple places. You hope these players turn out great. But this defense is gonna rely heavily on young/rookie players to be good this year. 🙏 for best.
I like the trade for a LB for Cowboys. Another DE at 92 isn't a bad thing. But still need to try to find quality bodies at LB/CB imho. I see Mia drafted the LB a lot of fans wanted. If I was Cowboys I would still talk to Mia about LB Brooks. Still need more.
This right here.. is why I liked Cowboys trading up a spot to make sure they got Downs. Other teams know what you want and they have people feeding them info. Not this exactly happening.. but I can only imagine the amount of times teams get jumped by one pick and lose a player.
@cdpiglet Who? Not me. Parsons is rare lol. I mean.. we can only hope Lawrence develops into a better version of Tank. What I mean by that is can create more pressure/sacks.
I mean... cool. But don't wait till after the draft to do so. Try to use one of your current 4th rd picks. Not a future pick. Make them calls asap and try to work a deal now.
Inside linebacker is still the Cowboys’ biggest need. But don’t look for them to trade into the second round to grab one. The most likely scenario is now that they trade for a veteran like they did for George Pickens last year when they didn’t get their No. 2 WR in the draft
Supposedly nothing officially done with Pickens signing his tag. I hope he does sooner than later. As I feel it's in his best interest. Just lock in this season. Give your best without any off the field BS. Your value only goes up. That includes other teams outlook on you.
Cowboys acknowledge they had two big surprises today:
1. The news that George Pickens would sign his franchise tag
2. That Caleb Downs was still there at 11
Uh hello... you have multiple 4th rd picks. You have a team or two with some veteran LB's. Make a call offer one of them. Worth a shot. Forcing a LB at 92 isn't smart. Hoping to find one that possibly could start 4th+ rd is beyond stupid imho. Make some calls Cowboys FO.
The Cowboys know LB is a major need but do not want to give up a lot of collateral to move way up to get one in the second round. They are reluctant to give up a 2027 pick to do so as well.
This is smart on Cowboys part as well. No single 2nd rd or later pick this year would be worth not having him on team. Too many holes on defense. Would have been very stupid to trade ur very productive #2 WR and create another hole on your roster.
