I can't tell you how much blood, sweat, and tears have gone into these milestones. It's been a very, very rough day, but we're getting there. Only 282 miles left!
To give you a sense of the scale out here: look at the buildings in the first picture - that's a ski resort. Now find the buildings in the next few photos.
The Whites have started on a very challenging note. But, I've been rewarded with beautiful sights. Today's views include southern Kinsman, Lonesome Lake, and Mount Liberty - perhaps my favorite view so far.
Goodbye, Vermont. Thanks for the sunny days. Headed into New Hampshire, home of the White Mountains - and the World's Worst Weather (looking at you, Mount Washington). Here we go!
I'd like to thank Vermont for the warm welcome - what gorgeous vistas I've already seen. I'd also like to thank Vermont for showing me more eastern newts - I haven't seen them since about New Jersey, and I've missed them.
The highest point in Massachusetts - Mount Greylock. This point is also notable for being the first summit over 3000' above sea level since the Shenandoahs in Virginia. Time to get back into the tall mountains.
New York, New York. What a treat it has been to be in this state. The climbs are tough, but the reward is immense. Harriman State Park is an absolute must-see, and Bear Mountain is the beautiful home of the first stretch of Appalachian Trail ever built.
Lots of adventures since I got to New Jersey. A shelter with a donkey, the High Point monument, and camping at a drive in. Yes, we watched a movie - Lightyear!
After a few days spent waiting for new shoes in Delaware Water Gap, I have finally left Pennsylvania and gone into New Jersey. 1300 miles down, less than 900 to go!
