Many Caribbean countries are decriminalizing, that pen to paper means nothing if the attitudes toward LGBTIQ + people in the Caribbean hasn’t gone beyond legality and move toward real equality, protection, and inclusion.
Here’s what we should do next in the Caribbean for LGBT people — broken down into legal, cultural, economic, and community-based action:
Reforms & Protections
✅ Anti-discrimination laws
• Push for laws that protect LGBTQ+ people from discrimination in jobs, housing, education, healthcare, and public services.
• Most Caribbean countries still lack this
🎥 Representation in media
• Support Caribbean filmmakers, musicians, and influencers telling real LGBT stories — not just stereotypes.
• Positive visibility reduces stigma.
🗣️ Engage faith communities
• While churches have been part of the problem, some Caribbean faith leaders are opening up to inclusive messages. Supporting and amplifying them can shift culture.
💼 Economic Justice
📈 Job access & business inclusion
• Many LGBTQ people face job discrimination or feel unsafe at work.
• Programs that train LGBTQ+ youth, help entrepreneurs, and promote inclusive hiring are key.
🏥 Healthcare without stigma
• Improve access to HIV prevention, mental health, and affirming healthcare for trans people.
• End discrimination in hospitals and clinics.
🤝 Support queer-led organizations
• Fund grassroots LGBTQ+ groups who are doing the work — from legal advocacy to emergency help to pride events.
🚨 Police reform and accountability
• Train law enforcement to stop violence against LGBTQ+ people and investigate hate crimes seriously.
🔥 Solidarity & Political Power
📣 Get involved in politics & advocacy
• Encourage more openly LGBTQ+ leaders to run for office or join advisory roles.
• Demand politicians speak up and not stay silent.
🤝 Pan-Caribbean coalitions
• Link activists across islands to create regional strength. Unity brings louder voices to courts, parliaments, and global platforms.
The Caribbean is rising — and so is its LGBTQ+ movement. Decriminalization was just the beginning.
Now, it’s time for:
• Protection 🛡️
• Representation 👥
• Love without fear 💕
• And real equality ⚖️
ECADE celebrates this historic win affirming the dignity of LGBTQ+ people in Saint Lucia, the fourth major victory in our regional legal challenge, following Antigua & Barbuda (June 2022), St. Kitts and Nevis (August 2022) , and Barbados (December 2022). 🏳️🌈⚖️
I have written to the Equality and Human Rights Commission asking them to withdraw their interim guidance on single-sex spaces ⬇️.
It goes beyond the Supreme Court ruling, increases risks of harassment and violence to trans people, and is contradictory & confusing. @EHRC please act!
An important reminder today for Londoners: our city is—and will always be—for everyone.
We will always be pro-women, pro-diversity, pro-climate and pro-human rights.
These are some of the values that will continue to bind us together as Londoners.
There is a critical need for O type blood at London’s hospitals.
If you are able to donate, I urge you to book an appointment at any of London’s Blood Donor Centres.

Michael Phelps is literally referred to as a freak of nature because of his disproportionate wingspan, double jointed ankles, lung capacity twice that of an average human, body that produces half the lactic acid of a typical athlete, and he is rightly celebrated for being the greatest male swimmer in history. Meanwhile, female athletes with genetic differences are legally discriminated against and harassed to no end. This is not about “protecting women in sports” - this is about protecting a very specific idea of what a woman is.
