Absolutely devastating news for Stevenage!

As a lot of you have heard, GSK has announced it is closing its Stevenage site! A home it has held for 50 years and relocating to Cambridge.
Around 1,800 people work at this site. This is a significant blow to our town’s economy and to every one of those employees and their families.

My thoughts are with all the staff affected. I wish them a smooth transition and hope as many as possible are able to continue their careers through the move.

But this cannot just be accepted and moved on from. A site of this size leaving our town demands a serious response. I will be speaking with our MP and the Leader of the Council to ensure we look urgently at what options exist for the town going forward, including what happens to the site itself and how we protect and attract future investment for Stevenage.

Stevenage deserves better than to watch its biggest employers walk out the door. We need to do more and we need a plan.

So… Keir Starmer has FINALLY stepped down as Prime Minister.
Many across the country will feel it's long overdue.

HOWEVER, they now plan to crown his replacement themselves, another Labour leader, chosen by Labour MPs, handed the keys to Downing Street without the public getting any say at all.
Not to mention that this would make them Britain's SEVENTH Prime Minister in a decade, and like the last few, with no mandate from the people who actually have to live with the consequences.

The country is failing. Families are crying out for change. And the answer is not another unelected Labour PM carrying on exactly as before.

What a day! 🙌

Our Reform UK stall at Stevenage Day was a huge success, thank you to everyone who stopped for a chat, and to our brilliant volunteers who made it all happen.

We put up a board with one simple question: "What changes do you want to see around Stevenage?"
The response was fantastic!
Plenty of great ideas went up and our councillors will be looking in to these… and a few notes not so friendly 🤣But, we believe in free speech, and we're more than happy to hear what people think.

We had hundreds of honest conversations, supportive ones and challenging ones! We welcomed every one of them. That's how real change starts.

We never shied away from a difficult chat, and it was hugely rewarding to cut through some of the misinformation people had picked up from the media and online and watch them genuinely reconsider where we stand.

I have absolutely no tolerance for abhorrent scenes of violence like this on our streets.

I'm honoured to share that I have been elected by my fellow Reform UK councillors as Leader of the Group on Stevenage Borough Council, and with that, I now serve as the official Leader of the Opposition.

Only a short time ago, the residents of Roebuck Ward placed their trust in me to be their voice in the council chamber. Today, my nine colleagues have placed their trust in me to lead our group. Ten councillors elected on a clear mandate from the people of Stevenage to challenge the status quo and deliver real change for our town.
This is a responsibility I do not take lightly.

As Leader of the Opposition, my job is to scrutinise every decision the administration makes, hold them to account on behalf of residents, and put forward a serious, positive alternative for the future of Stevenage.

Thank you to my colleagues for their confidence in me, to the residents of Roebuck for putting me here in the first place, and to every member, volunteer, and supporter whose work made this possible.

The real work starts now.
