#Liangxi district is a key area for musical heritage in #Wuxi, the designated UNESCO City of Music🎶. It is the birthplace of the distinguished Chinese folk musician Ah Bing and his iconic masterpiece Er Quan Ying Yue, or The Moon Reflected on the Second Spring.
Today, visitors can tour Ah Bing's former residence at Chong'an Temple, trace the ancient Grand Canal where his melodies once spread, and explore the Yingyueli Block within Huishan Ancient Town, a space named after this very timeless folk classic.
Lying on the shore of Lake Tai in Jiangsu Province, Wuxi is now the city designated a “City of Music” by UNESCO.
Over the centuries, the city produced musicians including Hua Qiuping, Gu Yuxiu and Liu Tianhua, and the blind folk player Hua Yanjun, known as Ah Bing, whose erhu piece The Moon Reflected on the Second Spring carried Chinese folk music to the world.
That tradition remains a working industry: the Meicun district is the largest erhu production base on earth, making close to fifty thousand instruments a year, and Wuxi supplies almost sixty percent of the world’s harmonicas.
The Wuxi Chinese Orchestra and Wuxi Symphony Orchestra have conducted performance tours in several countries, including France, Germany, Belgium, Croatia and Hungary.
On 20 August, it comes to Cankarjev dom for the 74th Ljubljana Festival, conducted by Daye Lin, in a programme of Verdi, Li Shaosheng and Brahms. We welcome friends to come and enjoy, having a vibrant concert evening together.
