Using misleading figures to undermine democracy.
What are the "Liberal Democrats" even for? Refusing to uphold even the principles implied by their own party name.
#LibDems#Brexit
Looks like Ed Davey is going to repeat the dodgy claim that Brexit is costing the UK "£90 billion a year" in lost tax revenue... 🙄
This is based on the "8% hit to GDP" in the research published by the NBER, which has now been widely debunked - even by Bloomberg Economics!
LibDems to call for Labour to scrap EU election promises on the single market & free movement, to hand UK lawmaking back to remote EU institutions, including the unelected EU Commission.
@EdwardJDavey & the so-called Liberal Democrats reject all concepts of democracy.
EXCL: Lib Dems will call for UK to immediately begin talks to rejoin the single market in notable strengthening of party position.
In a speech today, Ed Davey will challenge PM to scrap Labour’s red lines - including on free movement - and end what he describes as “torpor and timidity” towards EU.
He will also argue for a new European security council to counter mounting threats from Russia and unreliability of Donald Trump.

Still campaigning for higher prices in the shops. Didn't get the memo that Rachel Reeves just CUT import tariffs, only possible due to Brexit and an independent trade policy. #LibDems as ever can't see past a blinkered, EU-centred world view.
The LibDems here "forcing" higher prices in the shops, just as Rachel Reeves uses our Brexit freedoms to cut import tariffs - only possible *outside* the EU customs union. Major strategic error by the Liberal Democrats, as ever blinkered by an EU fixation. #LibDems#Brexit
This is a make or break moment for Labour MPs. As we force a vote tomorrow for a UK-EU Customs Union, leadership hopefuls like Andy Burnham are already U-turning on the EU.
Will they back our vote and fix this Brexit chaos, or keep failing the public? It's their choice.
🚨 BREAKING: Rachel Reeves will announce "Great British Summer Savings" tomorrow
She will outline plans to cut import taxes on over 100 food items, including biscuits, chocolate, fruit and nuts
Good morning @EdwardJDavey
As a member of the EU Customs Union, 29% of goods import types from outside the EU had a zero applied tariff.
From outside the EU, 53% of our goods import types have a zero tariff.
So you want to make our imports more expensive. Right?
It's true that claimed "Liberal Democrats" have never respected the majority decision of the EU referendum. Here, the party admits their customs union policy is just a ploy to reverse in steps what 17.4 million people voted for. Not liberal or democratic at all.
Liberal Democrats have always been clear that Britain’s future lies back in the EU, and we have a credible plan to get there - starting with a UK-EU customs union.
Ed Davey now pushing the government to break election promises to voters, to hand powers back to the undemocratic EU. Not a good look for a so-called "liberal democrat", Ed. Maybe you really aren't one?

If Labour is going to spend the next few months arguing about who should be PM, they should at least agree on one thing: these damaging red lines on Europe have to go.
A customs union is vital to grow our economy and to tackle the cost-of-living crisis.
British politicians now lie openly about the so called Dublin Convention. It was used in a derisory number of asylum cases and where it was applied resulted in the UK being a net recipient of asylum seekers.
Davey should have been asked: to how many asylum seekers did the Convention apply on an average year?
Since it worked both ways, how many did we send back and how many came here under it?
Did we return more than we received under Dublin?
@filthjim@RedDyke69 A good example for you here, from a very recent poll.
Even Lib dem and Green voters, when asked about where they want decision making to live on a whole raft of EU delegated areas, want the UK *alone* to decide on the laws that govern us.
Orban the “autocrat” accepted the result of this election. As he did in 2002 when he lost.
Remind us, how did you react when the British people voted for independence from the EU in 2016?
Lib Dem MP Max Wilkinson objects to social media because it allows people to express views he disagrees with & have their voice heard in a "really easy way". What part of liberal democracy is this so-called "Liberal Democrat" struggling with?
Some readers might question the wisdom of Davey so blatantly allying his party with a prime minister who remains about as popular among the general public as a diagnosis of tertiary syphilis.
Still, Davey licked his lips, and ploughed on, in the manner of a playground snitch. ‘As a former secretary of state for energy, the Prime Minister is right.’ ‘Stop sucking up!’ yelled Kemi Badenoch.
For a man keen to stress his record in government – perhaps in hope of a job in some sort of nightmare rainbow coalition – it’s fascinating that Davey never mentions his time as postmaster general when all those innocent people were prosecuted. Memory eh!?

Lib Dem mayor of Bath apologises after sharing posts suggesting Jewish ambulance attack was, variously, an Israeli false flag op or insurance fraud. Now claims the posts ‘never aligned’ with his views… https://t.co/PowjqiRQ47
The @libdems policy of a ‘roadmap’ towards #RejoinEU - much more structured, transparent & ambitious than Labour’s ‘reset’ - became party policy at our Spring Conference 4 years ago.
#JustSaying
If Sir Ed Davey’s stunts were ever funny, the joke has long since worn off.
At the Lib Dem spring conference this weekend, he strode onto stage wearing sunglasses to the tune of Boney M’s ‘Daddy Cool’ in a lame attempt to parody Emmanuel Macron’s recent appearance at Davos.
After a typically forgettable speech, Davey was then filmed performing a choreographed dance routine to Chappell Roan’s Gen Z pop hit ‘Hot to Go!’. And to think this was the party of Gladstone and Lloyd George.
