1965A sugar trade group needs the science to look a certain way.

They hand-pick the studies. They hire three Harvard scientists. They pay them the equivalent of fifty thousand dollars today.
The scientists write the review the sugar industry wanted. Sugar is cleared. Saturated fat takes the blame.

An executive writes back after reading the final draft. This is quite what we had in mind.

1967The review runs in the New England Journal of Medicine. No funding disclosed. No conflict of interest listed. The journal did not even require it back then.

That single paper helped build the foundation for the low-fat advice that followed for the next five decades. Butter became the enemy. Bread became the hero. A nation was told to fear the wrong food.

One of the three paid scientists went on to help write the first official US dietary guidelines in 1977.
The correspondence sat buried in a box in a Harvard library for 49 years.

A researcher found it in 2016. The letters. The drafts. The payment. Published in JAMA, in black and white, decades after every person who wrote them was already dead.
Fifty years of guilt over butter and cream. Paid for by the people who profited from the sugar.

Its impossible to get an accurate perspective on atmospheric gases from mainstream reporting.

Consider the actual physical scale: Carbon dioxide makes up just 0.042% of our atmosphere. That is 424 parts per million (ppm). Visually, that equates to just 4 molecules out of every 10,000, or a single molecule in a crowd of 2,500.

By contrast, water vapor can make up to 4% of the atmosphere in humid tropical regions, averaging around 1% to 2% globally. This means water vapor concentrations are routinely a hundred times higher than CO₂. Consequently, water vapor is by far the planet's dominant greenhouse gas, responsible for anywhere from 50% to 70% of the natural greenhouse effect.

The physical driver of our climate isn't a trace atmospheric gas; its the oceans. The oceans contain roughly 81% of the Earth's entire mobile surface reservoir of carbon, while the atmosphere holds a mere fraction by comparison. Furthermore, the oceans absorb and store over 93% of the thermal energy in the climate system.

Massive oceanic currents act as the planet's true engine, endlessly transporting immense stores of tropical heat toward the freezing poles.

The Earth is a dynamic, interactive and restless planet, driven entirely by the laws of physics—not simplistic computer models or financial spreadsheets.

Ultimately, CO₂ is the foundation for life on Earth. Through photosynthesis, plants use their unique properties to convert sunlight, water and soil nutrients into vital glucose energy and oxygen. Because of this, CO₂ underpins every single food chain on Earth. It is also a fundamental building block for marine life, utilised by organisms like oysters, clams, corals, and tiny swimming sea snails (pteropods) to build their shells.

Between 50% and 85% of the world's photosynthesis and oxygen production occurs in the oceans, driven by microscopic phytoplankton. These tiny organisms form the bedrock of the entire global marine food web.

La vida ja porta incorporades les dificultats importants. No cal convertir les petites incomoditats del dia a dia en drames.

Aprendre a dir “està bé, no passa res” és una habilitat que dona molta pau mental.

Perquè no tot és tan greu. No tot és personal. No tot mereix una reacció emocional desmesurada.

A vegades, madurar és simplement això: entendre que una gran part de la felicitat consisteix a relativitzar, acceptar, canviar el xip mental, i continuar endavant sense fer drames.

Nicht ganz ein Drittel davon ist von Land bedeckt, vorausgesetzt man zählt die von gefrorenem Wasser bedeckte Arktis und Antarktis dazu.

Ohne die Hartwasserflächen sind es nur etwas über 20 %.

Das sind ca. 1,386 Sextillionen Liter Wasser.

Das bedeutet, jeder Mensch hat 167 Milliarden Liter Wasser für sich alleine zur Verfügung. Das könnten Sie noch nicht mal alles saufen, wenn es Bier wäre!

Trotzdem redet man uns seit Jahrzehnten ein, wir sollen auf den „Wasserverbrauch“ achten, dabei kann man gar kein Wasser verbrauchen. Man benutzt es und dann ist genau so viel Wasser da wie vorher.

Wegen dem Grundwasserspiegel aber!!!

Der Grundwasserspiegel ist irgendwie seit 70 Jahren gefährdet, ohne dass uns je das Wasser ausging!

Genau genommen fällt in Deutschland recht oft Wasser vom Himmel und wir benutzen davon gerade mal 15 % des verfügbaren Wassers im Jahr.

Wir haben auch schon unsere deutsche Wasserversorgung und die Abwasserbereinigung in den 90er Jahren fertig ausgebaut. Da gibt es außer Wartung und Modernisierung nichts mehr zu tun!

Wir haben gigantische Mengen Wasser zur Verfügung und in unserem Land sechsmal so viel wie notwendig. Sollte es irgendwo zu einer Knappheit kommen, dann hat die Politik versagt und Sie dürfen einem Politiker auf die Nerven gehen, warum er bei so viel Wasser im Land seine Arbeit so schlecht macht, dass in seiner Region temporär nicht genug verfügbar war.

Sie selbst haben keinerlei moralische Pflicht oder Verantwortung, Wasser „zu sparen“. Genießen Sie Ihre persönlichen 167 Milliarden Liter Wasser in vollen Zügen. Und am Ende Ihres Lebens fehlt wegen Ihnen kein einziger Liter. Denn Wasser kann man nicht verbrauchen.

Your risotto is made of methane.

Rice is grown by flooding a field, and the flooding is not incidental, it is the entire method. Standing water keeps oxygen out of the soil. With no oxygen, a particular set of microbes takes over the mud and starts breaking down organic matter without it, and the waste product of that process is methane, which bubbles up through the water and out through the plant's own stem.

Those microbes are archaea. They are the same organisms, doing the same chemistry, as the ones in the cow's rumen.

There is no difference in the gas. There is no difference in the mechanism. A paddy field is a rumen with the lid off, and it works because a farmer deliberately drowned the ground to make it happen.

Rice is somewhere around 8 to 12 per cent of all human methane emissions, depending on whose inventory you read. It is the third biggest agricultural source after cattle, and it is bigger than the entire global sheep and goat population put together.

Nobody has ever been asked to give up rice on a Monday. There is no Rice Free January. No documentary. No supermarket pledge. No fourteen-year-old at the dinner table explaining to her grandfather that his paella is killing the planet.

Because rice is a plant, and plants have been granted permanent moral clearance, and the archaea did not get the memo.
