What an amazing afternoon with the wonderful @phab_charity team celebrating the work of our clubs & volunteers. Thanks @AnitaDobsonFC for your work as our last president & welcome @BnsJaneCampbell for taking on the role.
@MikScarlet @phab_charity @AnitaDobsonFC @BnsJaneCampbell Incredible alt text as per, Mik!
The sighted audience really miss out sometimes, myself included
Had an amazing time working on an R+D with @DeafinitelyT this week! Such a lovely group of people talking about some very important things. A real pleasure to be involved and can’t wait to see how the show develops.
Good luck today to @Libby_Dancing who us carrying out an audit of the @SavoyTheatreLdn on behalf of @phab_charity ACTS. The start of a constructive relationship to increase accessibility in theatre land. Everyone deserves to enjoy the theatre ❤️
I have listened to the 1984 audible play three times in a row and gearing up for my fourth go. Such a killer cast and incredible sound design actually got me reading the unabridged book itself, and now I'm marvelling at the scriptwriters. Also, sorry, Romesh?! The RANGE! 😱
📢 💫 *CASTING CALL*
KVH Casting are looking for girls who are deaf/deafened/hard-of-hearing for a new UK streamer series.
Please share and get in touch if you know someone who might be interested.
@CathyMager No worries at all! Shameless self promotion but I’m also a disability / access trainer, alongside (admittedly too many) other things. I work with both @tweetCDN and independently alongside the brilliant @MikScarlet, where we talk terminology all the time!
@CathyMager (2) but orgs and businesses need to be more general so that they don't exclude certain members of the deaf community. The agreed term (at least for now, as language changes continuously) is deaf and hard of hearing (HoH).
@CathyMager The idea when the term was being used was that 'deaf' referred to the diagnosis whilst 'Deaf' referred to the community. It's not representative of the deaf community as a whole, which is a huge spectrum. Individuals will identify at will (which is very important) (1)
@markyhmarcus He does makaton and also taught kids how to say ‘pulsating pussy’ instead of crab lol. I know this is an old tweet but he’s going viral atm for this
Access to Work (AtW) is also has a current waiting list of 16 weeks just to be assigned a case manager. That's 16 weeks after making the application before they'll even consider whether or not to proceed to the next stage. It's DIRE.
@jessphillips They're so far behind on PIP renewals and applications I don't see how they could then start approving individual purchases. Need some live saving equipment? Good news the backlog is only six months at the moment.
The PIP assessments I underwent (and will continue to undergo, as our entitlement is re-assessed every four years..) contributed massively to me developing complex post-traumatic stress disorder (C-PTSD). I was made MORE disabled by Tories. People WILL die as a result of this.
Some facts about #PIP
1. It is NOT an out-of-work benefit
2. The assessment & application process is hard. It is not "easy to claim"
3. Only 40-45% of claims are successful
4. Getting the correct reward is difficult. Challenging it can take months.
Please remember if you are a claimant:
This government is on the way out.
Nothing is to change with your benefits.
Disabilty is expensive. If you are on PIP, you deserve it.
Being on benefits is nothing to be ashamed of.
We all thrive in supporting one another.

Dear Mel Stride,
PIP has nothing to do with employment.
PIP is for moderate to severe disability and is v difficult to qualify for.
Noone gets PIP 'for' depression or anxiety. It is based on a functional analysis.
Stop playing smoke and mirrors with people's lives.
