@ISCWAG1 👍Thoughtful recommendations. And one should never under-estimate the power of a simple apology or ‘acknowledgement of wrong doing’ to aid healing. Insight is a powerful thing if matched by the capacity to change.
@gad1rovaGB How long are these competition days going to be now with the increased numbers? Especially for the youngest age groups. I’m not (yet) convinced of the premier domestic event being a 4 day extravaganza to include all. I’d rather a return to Aspires/MAG U14 having a separate event.
The @RoyalBalletSch is restructuring its tuition for year 7 and year 8 pupils, meaning they will no longer begin full-time training until they are “physically and emotionally prepared” 👇 https://t.co/XVobBzM1Rh
@em_sandy If this is true, this should not be held up as a positive and brave action for a player to take.
No doubt Lucy Bronze is brave, but will also have been badly let down by medical professionals bound by ethics.
The media will need to call this behaviour out rather than promote it.
@gad1rovaGB 2/2 Might these competition directives suggest the gymnastics world is finally getting wise to the safeguarding of very young minors in intense competition environments but then leaving it to individual federations/national coaches to decide their ethical line? Mixed messages.
@gad1rovaGB BG no longer send 11 & 12 year olds in Tumbling, Trampoline & Acro to major international ‘age-group’ championships, in order to mitigate against the pressure on these young children. Does a similar edict exist in WAG for 1st year (GB) Aspires, do we know? 1/2
World record-breaking swimmer Rūta Meilutytė said coach Jon Rudd’s focus on weighing and swimmers’ diets contributed to her struggle with an eating disorder and depression

@JoopyJulia@claireheafford Anyone else perturbed at the creeping late finishes of competitions? 13-15 yr olds don’t need high tea & bedtime by 6.30 & it wasn’t a school night, but seeing U14 MAG/Junior WAG (all minors) competing at this premier event till 9pm Friday is such poor optics.
BG is an organisation that is not professionally curious. They don’t know what questions to ask off the back of results/outcomes/information plainly infront of them - let alone judge the answers that come back. So frustrating.
A former dancer has settled a legal claim for body shaming, believed to be the first settlement of its kind in ballet, against the Royal Ballet School. @DinoNocivelli represents https://t.co/9eakuNIrNd
Lord Moynihan supports the bill and describes scandals and toxic behaviour in gymnastics and other sports. Points out that recommendations for MR in sport have been made in past reviews.
Well-designed mandatory reporting of child abuse is needed for the same reason laws mandating the wearing of seatbelts were needed: to make sure that well-meaning and law-abiding people know what is the right thing to do.
We welcome Yvette Cooper's announcement today.
I get the feeling that in gymnastics, we are in a strange period where time has passed, headlines receded, and abusive clubs and coaches are starting to creep back in, through new avenues, by putting a fresh face on their organisation or starting a new one. 🤔
As some senior leaders in the current news are finding, it’s the ‘ever since’ period that matters as much to victims of abuse. Once reported/uncovered, it should no longer be acceptable for the period afterwards in dealing with it, to be as retraumatising as the original abuse.
This is such a step backwards and a win for abusers and enablers in sport. Not publishing sanctions immediately strips parents/athletes of the ability to make informed decisions and shrouds alleged perpetrators in secrecy. We can expect repeated abuse while appeals are underway
Age group competitions are for children/teenagers - super talented athletes competing on the world stage, but children nevertheless. Really hope BG now include chaperones in GB delegations when very young children are sent to major championships like this one.
Super strong in podium training 💪
The GBR gymnasts are looking ready for action at the Acrobatic Gymnastics World Age Group Competition, taking place in Guimarães 🤩
We can’t wait for the competition to begin!
@angrygymmum Reputation & ego is everything for these abusive coaches. They dare not lose face with those to whom they’ve downplayed their actions or spun a narrative. It’s why all coaches with any sanction should be on a public register - to put a stop to their dissembling & minimising.
