Senator McGrath, its all very well to churn out an oped piece for the Australian trying to reclaim Liberal Party values but the facts still remain.

The Party:

- didnt stand up for small business, small government, balanced budgets, low taxes and freedom between 2013 and 2022
- allowed federal agencies to impose more red tape and bureaucracy on SMEs
- backed the economy destroying Net Zero policy
- oversaw a massive over-reaction to Covid-19 that trashed livelihoods, family relationships and kids education
- allowed State Premiers to trample on our civil rights
- massively increased debt
- etc.etc.

Meantime, you conspired with others to oust Tony Abbott as PM and waged a jihad against conservatives within the LNP in Qld.

The oped piece is fine - thats what you should be doing. It's a pity though that in your time in the Senate you haven't stood for these values.

As Parliament returns, Australians are once again being pushed into blaming one another for an economy that feels increasingly out of reach.

Young against old. Renters against owners. Workers against investors.

Australians should not be forced into resentment politics while housing becomes harder to afford and the cost of living keeps rising.

A stronger Australia is built by encouraging people to work, save, invest, build businesses and create homes — not by punishing aspiration.

The backlash to the Federal Budget shows many Australians are deeply uneasy about the direction the country is heading.

The Libertarian Party Queensland believes Australia succeeds when people are free to get ahead — not divided against each other.

Libertarian Party member and former Queensland Premier Campbell Newman has slammed Labor’s 2026 Federal Budget, warning Australians are facing an unprecedented tax grab.

“The extent of the tax grab from Albanese and Chalmers is now clear.”

Campbell described the budget as “an unprecedented increase in tax” involving “an extraordinary level of deception”.

“They have no mandate from Australians to do this.”

He also warned that if Labor wants to pursue a “business and aspiration destroying agenda”, they should “take it to the people first.”

“It’s time for a Federal election.”

Payroll tax is a tax on employing people.

Think about how insane that is for a moment.

The more workers a business hires, the more successful it becomes, and the more wages it pays, the more the government punishes it with additional tax.

Payroll tax actively discourages businesses from hiring more Australians. It increases the cost of employment, reduces wage growth, and adds yet another layer of bureaucratic compliance and paperwork onto businesses already drowning in regulation.

Even mainstream economists recognise that payroll taxes are largely passed onto workers through lower wages, reduced hiring, or higher prices.

You cannot tax employment and then act surprised when jobs become more scarce and expensive.

The Libertarian Party believes work should be rewarded, not punished.

We would abolish payroll tax entirely and make it cheaper and easier for businesses to hire Australians, grow their operations, and create jobs.
