The Only Libertarian Coalition That Has Ever Worked

Over 20 years ago, a group of committed libertarians had the courage to accept a hard truth: we weren’t going to turn all 50 states libertarian. Not through federal campaigns, not through wishful thinking, and certainly not through playing nice with the establishment. The numbers didn’t add up. The culture wasn’t ready. And the federal government wasn’t going to shrink itself.

So tried something different... they concentrated.

The Free State Project was born from a simple but powerful idea: libertarian migration for concentrated political influence. If enough libertarians moved to one small state... they could make liberty a reality somewhere. That somewhere became New Hampshire.

Why New Hampshire? Because the state’s constitution and governance structure were already built on the kind of decentralization that libertarians dream of. With 400 state representatives serving a population of just over 1.3 million, New Hampshire has the most representative and decentralized legislative body in the Western world... and nearly the entire world. That means one state rep for every ~3,300 residents. Compare that to your average congressional district, where one representative “serves” over 700,000 people.

That’s not representation. That’s managerial bureaucracy. New Hampshire was built for grassroots activism and local control... thus @FreeStateNH.

Since the first movers arrived, libertarians in New Hampshire have quietly built the most successful liberty coalition in modern American history. Hundreds of elections have been won. Town boards, school committees, and state representative seats have fallen into the hands of true liberty-minded individuals.

There are over 100 current legislators in New Hampshire who currently identify as libertarian or libertarian-aligned, many of them are proud Free Staters. These aren't beltway “libertarians” who cave on principle at the first sign of political pressure... these are Ron Paul revolutionaries, nullifiers, decentralists, and voluntarists who understand the mission: Live Free or Die.

Here's a list of some of their recent accomplishments:

-Federal Gun Law Nullification: New Hampshire passed legislation to block enforcement of federal gun control measures, affirming that the ATF’s edicts have no authority here. That’s not a tweet. That’s real-world resistance.

-Constitutional Carry: No permit required to carry concealed in New Hampshire.

-Home Education Freedom: New Hampshire now has one of the strongest environments in the country for homeschooling and alternative education options.

-Tax Cuts and Spending Reductions: Free Staters helped kill dozens of proposed tax hikes and cut bloated spending from the state budget, year after year.

-Defend the Guard Advocacy: New Hampshire was the first state where “Defend the Guard” legislation got real traction, aiming to block the deployment of our National Guard without a formal declaration of war.

-Qualified Immunity Rollbacks: While the fight isn't over, Free Staters have pushed legislation to end legal protections for bad cops, holding state agents accountable for rights violations.

This is not theory. This is action. This is what happens when libertarians stop wasting energy begging Washington for crumbs and instead build strength where they can actually win.

Today, over 6,000 Free Staters have already made the move, and thousands more are on their way. With each year, liberty takes deeper root in the culture, in the towns, and in the State House.

You don’t have to fantasize about liberty in your lifetime. It’s already happening... in New Hampshire.
