I found this chapter really interesting because of the choices each of the three characters made.
First, we have Sunhwa, who seems to have matured, or at least that’s what this chapter shows us. When Mokyeon brings up the possibility of exposing Nanjo, Sunhwa immediately makes it clear that he would never put someone else through what he himself had to experience. And honestly, I thought that was the right reaction from him. Obviously, it doesn’t erase everything he did before, but it does show that, at least in this aspect, he seems to have learned from his own experience.
Then we have Mokyeon, and this is where his actions once again leave me with mixed feelings. When he finally gets the chance to talk to Nanjo, one of the first things he does is expose the truth about Sunhwa. He shows Nanjo their conversations and reveals the way Sunhwa actually talked about him behind his back.
And this is where I wonder: Is Mokyeon telling him all of this because he genuinely believes Nanjo deserves to know the truth, or because, consciously or unconsciously, he needs to show that Sunhwa also did terrible things so that his own actions don’t seem as bad?
I also find it interesting that Mokyeon initially went to Sunhwa and tried to use him as a way to reach Nanjo, and now, in a way, he’s once again using everything related to Sunhwa as a means to try to reconcile with Nanjo.
To some extent, I can understand where Mokyeon’s actions are coming from. He’s desperate, he’s remorseful, and he doesn’t want to lose Nanjo. But understanding his motivations doesn’t necessarily mean the way he chooses to act is right.
In the end, Nanjo listens to him and also acknowledges his own mistakes. He admits that he was arrogant, that he made his own assumptions, and recognizes his own responsibility in everything that happened. He ultimately forgives Mokyeon, but decides to completely cut ties with him.
And we know that separation really happened. At the beginning of this season, we see Mokyeon in the present, noticeably thinner, with longer hair, and clearly in a very bad state, which shows that some time has passed since this conversation.
Now we have to see what happened during that period and how we got from this moment to the Mokyeon we see in the present.
