@rebeccamakkai I'm in--what a great idea!
My Dominican mom was not a big reader, but I love reading about the DR. In her honor: The Feast of the Goat by Peruvian author Mario Vargas Llosa tells the story of dictator Rafaél Trujillo, "el chivo." Mom fled his regime in the early '60's.
@LousyLibrarian My library established “neighborhoods” years ago. The idea was that someone traveling to Cancún would want a travel guide, a Spanish phrase book, a taco night cookbook, and a Ricky Martin CD (even though he’s Puerto Rican.) It turned out they only wanted a travel guide.

I am hoping my post-menopausal cronehood will be productive and creative, at least in terms of casting spells, dispensing wisdom, lighting a bunch of candles, rescuing cats, and posting useful product reviews on vendor websites.
@doodlyroses I sometimes front-load my to-do list with things I’ve already done—doesn’t matter how long ago—it makes me feel like a strong, robust pioneer. I also have a “Honey Do” list on my fridge even though I have nobody remotely resembling a life partner, but I can still nag them.
A classic American summer is about hot dogs and ice cream, concerts in the park, jumping into the pool, going to a baseball game. And standing in line for at least 45 minutes in the hot sun and even hotter asphalt for any of those.
