In 1652 the Dutch cut indigenous folks off from the river, and the first war of resistance broke out in 1657.

This cascaded into centuries of massacres against the Khoi and genocide of the Cape San, as colonialism spread across southern Africa.

No building on sacred land!

This is not just any land.
For millennia, this land was under the custodianship of Khoi cattle-herders who performed sacred ceremonies here.
