This is my friend, Simon Weston. Simon is one of the bravest and most inspirational people I have ever had the privilege to meet.

The scenes from the Argentina football team have left me deeply saddened. Politics and football will always stir emotion, but using the Falkland Islands to make a political statement ignores the real human cost of war.

Simon was serving on the Sir Galahad when it was attacked during the Falklands War. He survived horrific burns, lost so many of his friends, and has spent decades showing the world what courage, resilience and forgiveness truly look like.
Twenty-two men from his platoon never came home. They had families, friends and futures. They paid the ultimate price.

Whether you’re British or Argentine, those lives deserve respect.

The Falkland Islanders themselves voted overwhelmingly to remain a British Overseas Territory, and their democratic wishes should be respected.

Football should unite us, not reopen old wounds or celebrate a conflict that caused so much pain.

Today, my thoughts are with all those who served, those who never returned, and those like Simon who continue to carry the scars of war with extraordinary dignity.

There’s a poem that many of us have read before, perhaps without truly feeling its weight: “At first they came…” Today, those words land differently.

After yet another attack on Jewish people, I find myself reflecting not just on the past, but on the uncomfortable truth that history has a habit of repeating itself when we fail to challenge hatred early and unequivocally.

The poem isn’t just about what happened it’s about silence, about indifference, about the dangerous comfort of thinking “this isn’t about me.”

But it always becomes about all of us.
If we only speak out when it reaches our own doorstep, we’ve already waited too long. The lesson was never meant to stay in history books, it was meant to guide how we respond now.

Standing against antisemitism, against hate in all its forms, isn’t optional. It’s the responsibility of anyone who believes in humanity, dignity, and justice.

Because the real question the poem leaves us with is this:

Will we recognise the warning signs or will we look back again, wishing we had done more?

Today on International Women’s Day, I’m thinking of the brave women of Iran.
Women risking everything for freedom, dignity and the right to choose their own future.

Their courage reminds us that the fight for equality isn’t over.

The deaths of Mahsa Amini, Nika Shakarami & Hamidreza Rouhi show how little value a women’s life has!

In the words of Sahid Zand “for the first time in my life, I am proud to call myself an Iranian woman. And I am finally hopeful that perhaps, in a future not so far away, there will be a route to freedom in Iran other than being born a man.”

Almost 81 years ago, the BBC’s Richard Dimbleby broadcast his report from the liberation of Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. What he found defied belief.

Tens of thousands of people starved. Emaciated men, women and children lying among the dead. Bodies unburied. Disease rampant. Survivors too weak to move. Human beings reduced to skeletons behind barbed wire.

His editors in London reportedly hesitated to air it, they didn’t believe him as the horrors seems unimaginable.

But it was real.

He forced the world to confront the truth of the Holocaust. He spoke so we would remember. So it would never happen again.

Antisemitism is not “contextual”. It is not “just politics”. It is not less serious than any other form of racism.

It is hatred.

And when attacks on Jewish people are excused, minimised or rationalised, we dishonour those who died and those who liberated the camps.

We must not let history repeat itself. What Seymour Millen @unisontheunion & @carla_denyer @TheGreenParty is once again trying to dehumanise Jewish People.
